Soccer-filled weekend at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park

Dick’s Sporting Goods Park — John Babiak arrived early on Saturday with his cameras and didn’t leave Dick’s Sporting Goods Park until Memorial Day because he was busy capturing the Brazilian training session, the Colorado Rapids 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union, the unified group of players and leadership from both clubs at the Unified game late Saturday night*, and finally Brazil’s 2-0 win over Panama with fans focused on the field and two fans on the field itself.

Meanwhile, Pat Shea circumnavigated the complex on Saturday to capture footage from the Real Colorado Cup tournament and Showcase, the stadium, Marco Pappa’s excellent English explanations at the C38 Supporters Group Tailgate, post-game quotes (Jim Curtain, Sam Cronin, Pablo Mastroeni), and then as much of the atmosphere in the stadium before, during, and after Brazil and Panama put on a show in Commerce City on Sunday night.

* Among the highlights at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this weekend, the Unified game was special. Players, coaches, and club leaders surrounded the field, and the unified concept matches special-needs athletes with DA players from the clubs. ** Two points lost or one point gained? Like the Rapids this weekend, Switchbacks FC also suffered a late-game equalizer for a 1-1 draw with visiting Orange County Blues.
